satan, the devil to sit on a throne in the north and rule over the world

“The 5 I wills” of the satan – #3) “I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north”

In this article I address the third of five prideful “I will” statements, made by the enemy of your soul, as referenced in Isaiah 14:13-14.

For you havet said in your heart, I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.
Isaiah 14:13-14

First and foremost!
As I have said many times, first and foremost, without question, before you begin learning about the devil, the first step you should take to stand against evil is to vivaciously pursue an intimate relationship with Yeshua.

If you have not wholly and completely committed every area of your life to the one who loves you most, I encourage you to click here.

“I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north”
There are varying views on exactly what is being said here. However, there are revealing clues. First and foremost the thing to know is since it is coming from the author of pride, hate, and everything evil, it most certainly won’t be anything good.

It is also important to remember that the adversary of your soul knows the Bible far better than you

For clarity, I have broken the sentence up into three elements.

(1) I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north”

In Exodus 18:13 we read that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening”.

This is part of what Yeshua meant in Matthew 23:2 when He said: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat”. He was saying that they sit in judgment; except He meant it somewhat sarcastically. In essence, He was saying “Yes, they sit in judgment”; but never mind that. Listen to their teachings of the Torah but disregard what they do… they’re hypocrites.

Likewise, we all know that God Himself sits on a throne. It is customary for kings to sit, not stand.

So the devil was saying that he is going to sit in the seat of judgment.. just as Moses and even God Himself.

(2) “I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north”c
The word Congregation (H4150) here is the same word that we find in Lev. 23

These are the feasts (H4150) of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons.
Leviticus 23:4

Strongs #H4150 (Mo ed’) refers to the Appointed Times, Appointments, Holy Days of God that He has set aside for His people to meet with Him and each other.

All of the Appointed Times in Leviticus 23 point to Yeshua, the Messiah. They are all about Him. It is my view that the satan is saying here that rather than Yeshua, it is he, himself, who will rule over God’s creation, rather than the Creator.

This is exactly what we see the devil doing in Genesis 1-3. He successfully convinced the man and woman to commit adultery against Yahweh God. This is what Yeshua came to undo, address. Yeshua came to destroy the works of the devil and to re-establish a right relationship between Yahweh God and His people.

(3) “I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north”

Psalm 48:2 in the King James Version is a very familiar portion of Scripture. Perhaps you will recognize it:
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Psalm 48:2 (NASB)
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion in the far north, The city of the great King.

The Passion Translation puts it this way:
Zion-City is his home; he lives on his holy mountain—
high and glorious, joy-filled and favored.
Zion-Mountain looms in the farthest reaches of the north,[a]
the city of our incomparable King!

In my studies, I consult a few Bible commentaries but I hardly ever rely upon them. It is even more unusual for me to quote them.

However, Commentator John Gill worded his commentary on this portion of Scripture so very well that I thought I would include it here.

“on the sides of the north; Jerusalem was north of Zion, as Zion was south of Jerusalem; likewise the temple was on the north part of Mount Zion, Isa_14:13; the altar and altar gate was on the north side at the temple, and there were the tables on which the sacrifices were slain, Eze_8:5; and on the north side of the altar was the creature to be offered killed, Lev_1:11; and perhaps some reference is here had to the church of Christ in the latter day, which for many years past has been chiefly in our northern part of the world: hence the Protestant doctrine is by the Papists called the Northern Heresy; and it will be “tidings out of the north” that shall trouble the man of sin, or some agent of his, to come forth with fury, and plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas, in the glorious holy mountain, Dan_11:44;”
John Gill

Following is what the Liberty Bible Commentary so eloquently says about Psalm 48:1-3:

1  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
2  Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
3  God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
Psalm 48:1-3

Long before the misguided cry of the Ephesians, “…Great is Diana…” (Acts 19:28), the people of God had good reason to sing the praises of Jehovah. He had identified Himself with the people of God, Israel, and with the mountain of His holiness, Mount Zion (literally beautiful for elevation). Rising aloft in beauty, the city of Jerusalem was remarkable topographically; for it was set on the summit of one of the numerous hills of Judaea. Early called the “Queen of the East,” Jerusalem is indeed the joy of the whole earth (cf. Lam. 2:15). It was the unique claim of Jerusalem to be the city of the great King. There God is known, and in that city, the worship of Jehovah is centered.

So what the satan was saying here is that he was going to set up camp in the very place where God Himself dwells…

So again, what the satan is boasting here in this sentence is that he is going to completely usurp what the God of the universe is going to do.

In general, the devil is saying that he is going to sit on his throne (did he mean God’s throne? Probably…) , and take the place of the Messiah in God’s very own land, as he judges and rules over God’s people and even all of the universe.

Pretty lofty goal wouldn’t you say? There is an epic battle between right and wrong, good and evil, God and the satan raging that will continue to intensify as the day draws nearer and nearer.

There will be no fence riding. Those who try to hide in the shadows will be overcome. There are other prophetic implications to all of this that I may address later as well.
