Where does your authority come from?

As the future unfolds there will be MANY subjects and issues that will require your attention. You will be faced with circumstances that are completely foreign to modern America and they will demand a response:

You will be forced to make immediate decisions. You will not be able to some of the challenges that you face for a month to think about it or, in some cases, even a day or an hour. You will have no choice in the matter. You will have to make a decision. The more prepared you are to make those decisions, the better it will go for you.

Even though many of these issues can be prepared for in a general way, even now, many of these challenges will present brand new questions that will be completely foreign to all but a very rare few.

Of the many issues that you will be faced with, perhaps one of the most paramount is the question of authority.

The subject of “authority” influences almost every issue of life in one way or another.

Authority is a very fascinating subject. 
Most people don’t give the issue of authority a lot of thought.  Most just do what they are told by whoever they perceive has it.

When considering authority it is important to distinguish it from power.

I think of it this way:  Consider a traffic cop who is standing out in the middle of the street directing traffic.  By himself, he certainly does not have the power to stop a car. No human being could physically stop a car (without aid) if the driver wasn’t willing to submit.  

However, the traffic cop does have the authority to stop a car.  The badge he wears puts drivers on notice that the cop has all of the authority of the state behind his lawful instructions.  The handgun and radio on his belt gives him the ability to enforce his authority.

The United States Constitution of 1787
I dare say that if you were to ask most Americans from where their freedom is derived, they would probably mumble something about you being “high” as they sort of stumbled away. That may be a bit of an exaggeration but I think you get my point… I am sure you have seen those “man on the street” interviews when questions like this are posed to random people passing by.

If you did receive a coherent answer, it would almost certainly be “the Constitution”.

These days, it seems that very few ever give the basis of their freedom any thought. Of those who do, it seems that most think that the American constitution is the basis of our liberty.  However, the American Constitution is not the basis of our freedoms.

The American Constitution was not intended to grant “rights”, but rather its purpose was to protect and secure them.

The Declaration of American Independence
The Declaration of American Independence is actually the document that grants Americans their freedom.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident…all men are…
endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.
That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.”

The American Declaration of Independence of 1776 is not the only document that established America as a nation under Yahweh God. The Mayflower Compact of 1620 set the course very well as did many other documents. However, the Declaration of Independence is the legal document by which all other American freedoms are based.

The Authority of the Declaration of Independence
So from where did the authority of the Declaration of American independence originate?

I mean, after all, the people who wrote it were just men. Did they just decide to declare their independence one day?

The document itself answers that question. Here are the opening couple of sentences of the “Declaration of Independence”.

“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — 

Remember the Republic
“…. and to the republic, for which it stands….”

You know that America is not a democracy right…? America was established as a “republic”. America is not a democracy. America is a republic.

A “democracy is mob rule”. Whatever the mob wants is the law of the land.

On the other hand, a republic is based upon the rule of law. Not only is America a republic; but it is a Christian republic. Not only is America’s government based upon law, but it is based upon God’s law; God’s laws that are based upon His authority. That is what makes America a Christian Republic.

The Origin of Authority
All authority originates from God Himself.  Think about that for a moment:  Ponder it.  A proper understanding of authority can clear up a lot of confusion and uncertainty in life. 

In the Bible, Romans 13:1 says that ” there is no authority but from God “. The Bible is clear that all authority originates from God (1Cor. 15:24-28).

It is right to say the Word of God (the Bible) is the basis and expression of true and right authority.

God delegates authority
While all authority originates from God, The Father has delegated first and foremost eternal government to His Son Jesus / Yeshua.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

All liberty is a “right” granted by God through Yeshua.  “who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
1 Timothy 6:15

Any and all authority that man possesses has been delegated to him by God, through Yeshua.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Matthew 28:18

Through Yeshua; Yahweh, the God of the Bible, has basically delegated authority to man in four different venues.

In other words, the Bible identifies four different areas of government. What is government? Government is the administration of authority / law / justice.

  1. Self
  2. Familial
  3. Church
  4. Civil

So there is self-government, familial government, church government and civil government.

Self administration of authority, family administration of authority, church administration of authority and civil administration of authority.

Anyone in leadership in any of these areas is tasked to serve those in their area of responsibility as the Messiah “gave Himself to the church”.  That’s a tall order.

This is why some communities in early America required everyone who was running for political office to be an elder in a church.

What Americans utterly fail to realize is that all freedom and liberty comes from God. Why do you think that places like China, North Korea, and Russia are so famous for the extreme abuse and murder of their own citizens?

It is because they are communists. Communists are by definition atheists. Atheists are anti-God. Atheists resist and reject the Spirit of God. Where the Spirit of God is, there is freedom. Where God is not, there is bondage and slavery.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:17

However, with the “right” of liberty comes the responsibility to be good stewards of it in every area of life.

Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
1 Corinthians 4:2

The problem we have at this point is American’s have not been good stewards of what God has given us. As a result of that, judgment has begun to fall upon America even now.

Walking in your God-given authority is a walk in faith
In Luke 7:8 Yeshua, with the help of the Centurion, Yeshua provides us with marvelous insight into authority.

The Centurion said “For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.”

What was Yeshua’s response to the Centurion?

When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned him about,
and said unto the people that followed Him, “I say unto you,
I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel“.
Luke 7:9

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Hebrews 4:13

Conclusion
Embracing the principles of authority is a walk in faith that Yeshua honors. The time is drawing short. Soon you will be required to choose whose authority you will surrender to.

Even now there are only two choices: Yahweh God, or the satan: But here in America, you can still try to hide our true allegiance. However, the day is coming when all will be exposed. There will be no fence riding. You will have to choose what God you will serve.

The main point I am hoping you will receive today is that to properly function in the Kingdom of God; in order to fulfill the destiny that He has for you, it is critical that you develop a working understanding of “authority” and how to appropriately apply its principles into your life. What I have provided here is a cursory introduction to the subject.

In this article, I have offered a very brief snippet of authority and how it directly relates to every aspect of your life.

The time to consider what authority you choose to be under is now.
