God’s Kingdom Podcast: De-fund Po-lice? A former police officer and spirit-filled, Constitutional Pastor weighs in.

Following is a summary of today’s program.

There is a lot of posturing right now with “useful idiots” calling out to defund all police departments. Not everyone considering this is a “useful idiot”, but almost all who are pushing this are simply being used by the world leaders.

Where is this coming from?

When we look to man’s philosophies we see error and contradictions.

Plato stated that love is one of, if not the most, natural emotions that humans have, thus we are naturally good because love itself is good, while
Jean-Jacques Rousseau said that people “are Good by Nature but Corrupted by Society”; hmmm.

If man is basically good, evil is certainly something to avoid at all costs.

unregenerate humanity is sinful

The Bible explains that unregenerate humanity is sinful: Not just in theory or in practice but by nature.

The Bible speaks of “sinful flesh” in Romans 8:3, our “earthly nature” and “the body ruled by sin” in Colossians 3:5, and Romans 6:6 speaks of how our sinful, corrupt nature.

The sin nature is universal in humanity. All of us have a sinful nature, and it affects every part of us.

The concept of man being born into sin is referred to as the “doctrine of “total depravity”.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way, and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:6

Yeshua made a way for us.

Of course, Yeshua made a way for us. As we enter into covenant with Him, we release the sins that plague us and embrace the purity that He offers us.

We acknowledge the righteousness of God, as expressed through the laws of God, spiritually cleanse us and set us free from sin and death

Rom 7:14  For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. See Rom. 7:14, Rom. 7:25, Ecc. 7:20, 1 John 1:18

U.S. Constitution – Temporal law

While the Word of God is our Heavenly law, for America, the U.S. Constitutioin is our Temporal law.

John Adams, America’s second President under the Constitution said this:

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

John Adams

“Law Enforcement”

Laws are essentially meaningless without enforcement. Soo who should enforce these laws?

There are verses that people apply to this but for me they are a bit of a stretch. (Ezekiel 33:6, Neh 4:13, Ezekiel 44:24)

God is a God of justice (Deuteronomy 32:4), and He demands justice of His people: “Follow justice and justice alone” (Deuteronomy 16:20).

These verses certainly do imply that there is to be a means of dealing with the unruly. Remember that in Israel, there was the family unit, Priests, and the army. There is no mention or inference of a compensated police force.

Still, there are many things that we do today that are not in the Bible: we drive cars, work in office buildings, use electricity, etc., etc., etc.

So should we fund the police? I see no other alternative. However, the system is broken and it is broken because we have lost our way. The fear of John Adams has become true: The United States Constitution is hanging on by a thread (sort-of) while trying to govern an immoral and irreligious people and we are seeing how it is wholly inadequate to do so.

For me, one of the primary, applicable Scriptures is Psalm 82:3-4:

Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

There is a vast difference between “law enforcement” and “policing”: I discuss it in the podcast.

Conclusion

The rule of law must be upheld and the helpless need helped in times of need. I see no other way to accomplish it then to have a police force. Having said that, as a whole, the police culture is severely distorted and is in desperate need of restructuring.

Blessings in Yeshua,
Parson Rayphe
