Equipped for every good work

Most of us have heard 2 Timothy 3:16 many times:  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

We often quote or hear quoted v.16 for a particular reason, often to prove a particular point, but unfortunately, we rarely associate it with the verse following it, verse seventeen.

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
2Timothy 3:17 KJV

 so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:17 AMP

The reason Apostle Paul is telling us that ALL Scripture is inspired by God is so that we can be confident to base our lives on it as we go forward fulfilling the destiny that God has pre-ordained for us.

Of course Apostle Paul was referring primarily to the “Old Testament” / Tanach, but even still, we can have confidence in all of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

In Psalm 139:16 King David is talking to God and says “Your eyes saw my substance, even though I was incomplete and all the days ordained for me were recorded in your book” (my translation).

So in 2 Tim. 3:16 & 17 Apostle Paul is telling you that you can depend upon the written Word of God to lead and guide you to fulfill the destiny that was preordained for you even before you were born.

However, just to be clear, God leads us in many ways The written (logos) Word of God is the primary way but He also leads by the Rhema (spoken) Word of God, His Holy Spirit, nature, other people, and basically however He chooses.  

Along with purposing to be “in-tune” with voice of God by the various ways He speaks with us, beginning in 2 Timothy 2:14 Apostle Paul admonishes us to eradicate anything and everything that is preventing us from walking in the grace (empowering presence) of God.

So the basic idea that Apostle Paul is relating in this portion of Scripture is that in order to fulfill the destiny that God has for us, it is important that we take responsibility for our lives; to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.

Of course, there is much, much more involved in walking with God than just this, but being mindful of these things is foundational, and a tremendous step forward.

It is a well-established principle that if you seek God, He will direct your path in order to prepare you for what is coming next.

Yahweh God is “calling out” a “Remnant” to represent Him, in a special way, both now and in the days ahead. This “calling out” involves healing,  reviving, and making you ready to serve Him according to the destiny that He has ordained for you.
