Your Spiritual Birthright: Jacob, Esau, and You
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples:
and they are written for our admonition,
upon whom the ends of the world are come.
1 Corinthians 10:11
All of the Bible is so rich for life today. The Gospels document the words and life of the Messiah. The Epistles show us how to live life in these days as God is calling his people unto Himself for these days and the days ahead.
However, the Old Testament / Tanach shows us how to journey with the Most High God to accomplish His plans and purposes.
Jacob and Esau
One of the most well-known stories in the Bible is that of Jacob and Esau in Genesis 25; and for good reason.
Isaac was 40 years old when he took Rebekah to wife. As she sensed the struggling in her womb she petitioned God to enquire what was happening inside her.
He told her that there were twins in her womb and that even then two nations were struggling against each other. One would be called Jacob, and the other Esau.
“one people shall be stronger than the other people and the elder shall serve the younger.
Jacob, Esau, and lentil stew
Esau was older as he was the firstborn. When the boys grew, Esau was a skillful hunter and Jacob was a peaceful man who dwelled in tents. Isaac loved Esau because he ate his venison but Rebekah loved Jacob.
One day Jacob had cooked some stew when Esau, famished, came in from the field and petitioned Jacob for some of his stew.
Jacob, Esau, and the birthright
Jacob was willing to give Esau some stew; based on one condition. Because Esau was older, to him was afforded the family birthright. So before giving Esau some stew, Jacob said to Esau, “First sell me your birthright”.
In response, Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?”
Jacob said, “First swear to me”; so Esau swore to Jacob and thus Esau sold his birthright to him. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and Esau ate and drank and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau “despised” his birthright which means that, at the time, he considered his birthright to have little or no value because of his circumstances.
Stew for a birthright
While Jacob and Esau very clearly represent two nations, the story can very clearly and profoundly be considered and applied in a more personal way.
Esau the hunter had been out in the field. Apparently he hadn’t been very successful because upon his return he was “famished”. Subsequently, because of his circumstances, he was willing to forfeit his inheritance for momentary satisfaction.
I’m sure you can see how you can apply this to your life right now. You may have even considered that before: Things like “do I desire God more than these cigarettes, sex, or gossiping, pride, etc., etc., etc.?”
Do YOU like lentil stew?
However, what you may not have considered is future events that have not yet occurred.
I know that I mentioned this regularly but God has told me to sound the alarm and so that is what I do.
America is going to change drastically, dramatically, and probably very abruptly. When that happens lawlessness will rule. It will be a battle between gods and survival of the fittest.
What would YOU do?
So today I encourage you to consider how you might respond in situations that are far more dire than your imagination. What will your response be? In WW2 Germans offered hungry Jews, who were literally starving to death, pork soup. I am certainly not saying that it would be a sin to eat pork soup in that situation. It is just “food for thought”.
Are you willing to sacrifice for the mysteries of God?
It is to those who are willing to go deeper, well beyond the surface that Yahweh God will commit His mysteries. If you are satisfied with the scum that lies on the surface than you need not be concerned with what has been discussed here.
However, if you want to be a part of the “Remnant”, the chosen few who will do great exploits in the service of the Most High God, then you will have to go far beneath the surface. You will have to go farther than the rest: It will require sacrifice and commitment.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna,
Revelation 2:17
If that describes you, then go forward in confidence today because “whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith”.
Trust in Yeshua today. He will feed you to overflowing and give you water such that you will never thirst.
Blessings in Yeshua,
Parson Rayphe
