This day in History: Jonathan Edwards
October 5, 1703 was the birthday of Jonathan Edwards. He died March 22, 1758.
Edwards was a prolific Calvinist theological writer. Many of his writings were later collected in the multi-volume book The Rational Biblical Theology of Jonathan Edwards, edited by John Gerstner.
He was an extremely well known preacher during what is known as the “Great Awakening”
He is perhaps most well known for a famous sermon he preached called “SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD”. You can read it here.
While it is a famous sermon that I have heard about for many years I have never been able to bring my self to study it: I don’t like the title.
Whenever I reminded of it I remember that “For God so loved the world that…” and that God loved me while I was still a sinner by choice.
