“I am weak but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong”

I remember cool mountain mornings and old faded Levi’s as I was riding my horse and quietly singing this song: “Just a closer walk with thee”. It sounds sort of nostalgic, doesn’t it? The thing is; it’s true. I really have done that; multiple times.

You may recognize that the words in the title of today’s Daily Encouragement are from an old hymn that everyone who knows the old hymns will recognize.

Just a Closer Walk with Thee
“Just a Closer Walk with Thee”. I sang that song in church meetings but for me, it will always be memorialized by the late singer Patsy Kline.

For me, the melody of that song is almost riveting. I think a lot of people feel that way. Apparently that is why it is one of the more famous of hymns.

As I walk, let me walk close to thee

Just a closer walk with thee
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea
Daily walking close to thee

To thy kingdom’s shore, to thy shore
When life’s sun sinks in the west
Lord, may I have done my best
May I find sweet peace and rest
In that happy home of the blessed

Daily walking close to thee
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be

Is it real?
The only problem with this dear, well-meaning song is it is a lie. If you have been “born again”, the entire premise of this song is a lie!

I am weak but thou art strong
Eph 6:10 …be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 

Jesus keep me from all wrong
Act 8:22  Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven you.

I’ll be satisfied as long As I walk, let me walk close to thee.
Luk_17:21  Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (you are not “close to Yeshua, you are ONE WITH HIM)

Just a closer walk with thee; grant it, Jesus, is my plea
Eph 2:5  …He has quickened us together with Christ… (it’s already done)
There is no reason to ask for God to grant it because it is done.

I could go on…

This song is probably in every hymnal you could still find in America and it is a lie.

Negative thoughts and confessions like this will kill you and even others around you
Thoughts and confessions like this will keep you in the very state the lyrics that this song proclaims; weak and feeble.

For by your words are justified, and by your words you are condemned.

Matthew 12:37

Do you want to experience all that God has for you? If your answer is yes then you are going to have to ditch old mindsets and old confessions.

The writer of Hebrews admonishes us to move away from the elementary things of God and to move on to His higher ways.

As a part of the Remnant, God is saying to you; let loose of the old ways and grab on to the new life that God has given you in Yeshua.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 

Rom 12:1-2

As you renew your mind, ask God to forgive you for confessing words that are an affront to the accomplished work of Christ.

Confess and proclaim the truths of God that He has promised you. Make the power of God a reality in your life by the blood of the lamb and the word of your witness / testimony.

This is one of the many paths you will take to be an overcomer in Yeshua.
