God’s Kingdom Podcast Summary: Sin, Transgression, Iniquity, & What is the Pursuit of Happiness

Folowing is a brief summary of today’s God’s Kingdom Radio program.

The violation of the laws of God brings heartache from every direction.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me.

Psalm 51:2-3

Not unlike Israel of old, Americans have been a stiff-necked people who have insisted on doing it their way rather than honoring Yahweh God, the one who has blessed America so incredibly.

And he said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”

Exodus 34:9

God gives grace to those who diligently seek Him. But for nations who turn their backs to Him, He addresses them accordingly.

Leviticus 26:36-41
As for those of you who may be left, I will also bring weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee as though from the sword, and they will fall.  37 They will therefore stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand up before your enemies.  38 But you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you.  39 So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their forefathers, they will rot away with them.

40 ‘If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me— 41 I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies—or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that they then make amends for their iniquity,  42then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. 

Amos 2:4  Thus saith Yahweh; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of Yahweh, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked: 
Amo 2:5  But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem. 

God’s laws, independence, and the pursuit of happiness

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, 

Declaration of Independence 2nd paragraph

How does this idea of obeying God’s laws align with the right of an individual to pursue happiness as outlined in the Declaration of Independence?

To answer that, one must understand what the writers of the Declaration meant when they said that pursuing happiness is the “unalienable right” of every individual.

Did they mean that every individual should be legally protected to do whatever made them feel good at the moment? No.

Many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were lawyers. The primary legal reference of the day was Blackstone’s Law Commentaries.

Blackstone defined the idea of “happiness” in his commentary.

As, therefore, the Creator is a Being, not only of infinite power, and wisdom, but also of infinite goodness, He has been pleased so to contrive the constitution and frame of humanity, that we should want no other prompter than to inquire after and pursue the rule of right, but only our own self-love, that universal principle of action. For he has so intimately connected, so inseparably interwoven the laws of eternal justice with the happiness of each individual, that the latter cannot be attained but by observing the former; and, if the former be punctually obeyed, it cannot but induce the latter. 


In other words, pursuing God will make one “happy” and if one will pursue God, it will cause one to be happy.

Basically, when the founders identified the “pursuit of happiness” as an unalienable Right, they were saying that pursuing God was something that all should have the freedom to do.

The solution

America has lost its way. It has taken the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, all of which are Biblical principles, and completely distorted them beyond all recognition of the original, Biblical intent.

There are many issues plaguing America today that need to be addressed.

Addressing the Biblical, common law principle of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is a significant part of the solution.
