God’s Kingdom Podcast: Waiting Upon Yahweh In Times Of Crisis

God’s Kingdom Podcast: Waiting upon Yahweh in times of crisis

Following is a summary of today’s program

Gone with the Wind

Gone with the Wind is a 1939 epic movie which takes place at an Atlanta plantation.

The movie classic won eight Oscars, including best picture, and it made history when Hattie McDaniel became the first black American to win an Oscar for her performance.

However, recent critics have criticized “Gone With the Wind” for its depiction of black people. So following the death of George Floyd, amid heightened racial tensions HBO Max pulled the iconic movie from its library.

Chick Filet

Recently a Chick Filet’ employee was photographed with a company tee-shirt that read “Back the Blue” on the back.

The photograph was placed on social media and “went viral”. As a result, it is reported that Chick Filet’ was “forced to apologize” even though the intent of the tee shirt was for completely company purposes and reportedly had absolutely nothing to do with the police.

The surrendering of these businesses in oorder to coply with public pressure is staggering.

Samuel and Saul’s Sacrifice

In 1 Samuel 10:8 the prophet Samuel told Saul, the King of Israel: “Go down ahead of me to Gilgal. I will surely come down to you to sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, but you must wait seven days until I come to you and tell you what you are to do.”

Saul’s back was against the wall. A huge army had gathered to annihilate Israel. It was the 7th day and he hadn’t seen Samuel.

Saul chose to supersede Samuel’s instructions and offer a sacrifice without him.

Just as Saul finished the sacrifice, Samuel arrived and said, “You have done a foolish thing. . . . You have not kept the command Yahweh your God gave you” (1 Samuel 13:13).

Why was offering a sacrifice foolish? Because even though Saul waited the prescribed seven days, he failed to wait for Samuel’s return.

Failing to wait upon Yahweh, and follow His instructions, as the man of God instructed, cost Saul the Kingdom.

1Sa 13:8  And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

1Sa 13:9  And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

1Sa 13:10  And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

1Sa 13:11  And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

1Sa 13:12  Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

1Sa 13:13  And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

1Sa 13:14  But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

Wait upon Yahweh

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

God has His reasons for His instructions. Releasing our own thoughts and desires to His is how to live through crisis situations.

I fully realize that this sounds cliche’: And unless one develops their relationship with God to that point, that is just what it is.

However, for those who press in and ask God to help them know Him, cliche’ can turn to reality.
